This article was previously published under Q245760 SYMPTOMS
After you install the Microsoft printer driver for the Hewlett-Packard (HP) LaserJet 5/5m PostScript printer on a Windows 2000-based computer, the General tab in the printer's properties may show that the Double-Sided setting is set to No, even though the Duplex Unit setting on the Device Settings tab is set to Installed.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the printer contains less than 12 megabytes (MB) of total memory. The LaserJet 5/5m printer requires at least 12 MB of total memory before you can print double-sided pages in PostScript mode.
RESOLUTION
Upgrade the printer to 12 MB of memory or more, and then set the Total Memory box on the Device Settings tab in the printer's properties to 12 MB or more.
