Incorrect Video Display Adapter Driver Used on HP NetServer LH Pro Servers (244470)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server

This article was previously published under Q244470

SYMPTOMS

When you install Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server on a Hewlett-Packard (HP) NetServer LH Pro server that has a Trident 9000 series video adapter, you receive an error message. The error message states that the Trident Video Accelerator 9320/9440/9470 VL/ISA is unable to start.

When this occurs, Windows 2000 substitutes the generic Vga.sys driver for the correct driver, making some of the video adapter capabilities unavailable.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because Windows 2000 Advanced Server does not support the Trident 9000 or 9001 chip set.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server.
