The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Server
This article was previously published under Q243978 SYMPTOMS
When you or another administrator use the Schema Management Console to add an optional attribute to a class or auxiliary class, the operation may fail.
CAUSE
This issue can occur if the attribute or class that you are adding contains any portion of a present optional attribute or auxiliary class string for the class.
For example, if you create an attribute abc and add it to a class, you are unable to add another attribute called abcx to the class, where x is any valid character or combination of characters.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, use Ldp.exe to add the optional attribute or auxiliary class, or reverse the order in which you add the attributes to the class.
For example, add abcx before you add abc.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
