Visual C++ 5 (Visual Studio 97) Does Not Display ToolTips (243517)

SYMPTOMS

Microsoft Visual C++ version 5 from Microsoft Visual Studio 97 does not display ToolTips when you hold (or hover) the mouse pointer over the toolbar buttons in Windows 2000 or Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition.

CAUSE

This behavior is caused by a change in the Mfc42.dll file.

RESOLUTION

This behavior is cosmetic only. Note that this behavior does not occur with Visual C++ version 6.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
