There may be a situation in which you cannot use your mouse to work with the feature tree in the Microsoft Office 2000: Selecting Features dialog box. The "More Information" section of this article provides the keyboard shortcuts that you can use in this situation.

To manipulate the feature tree in the Microsoft Office 2000: Selecting Features dialog box, use the following keyboard shortcuts:

  • To activate the feature tree so that you can make changes, press the TAB key until the top Microsoft Office feature is selected.
  • To move up or down in the feature tree, use the UP ARROW key or DOWN ARROW key, respectively. For example, with the Microsoft Office feature selected, press the DOWN ARROW key to select the next feature down. By default, this is the Microsoft Word for Windows feature.

    NOTE: You can also press the key for the first letter of the feature that you want to select. For example, if the Microsoft Office feature is selected, press O to select the Office Tools feature.
  • To expand or collapse a feature, to show or hide any child features, use the RIGHT ARROW key or LEFT ARROW key, respectively. For example, to expand the Microsoft Word for Windows feature, press the RIGHT ARROW key. This displays all of the child features for the Microsoft Word for Windows feature.
  • If you have several features expanded, vertical and horizontal scroll bars may appear next to the feature tree. To scroll up or down, press CTRL+UP ARROW or CTRL+DOWN ARROW, respectively. To scroll left or right, press CTRL+LEFT ARROW or CTRL+RIGHT ARROW, respectively.
  • To change the installation state of the selected feature, press the SPACEBAR. Then, use the UP ARROW key or DOWN ARROW key to select the installation state that you want. After you set the installation state of the feature, press ENTER. For example, to change the Help feature under the Microsoft Word for Windows feature to Installed on First Use, select the Help feature. Then press the SPACEBAR, and press the DOWN ARROW key until Install on First Use is selected. Then press ENTER.
