PRJ2000: Opening the New File Dialog Box Takes Longer Than Expected (242703)

SYMPTOMS

When you click New on the File menu to create a new file, there may be a substantial delay before the New dialog box appears.

CAUSE

When you create a new file, Microsoft Project searches for file templates in all subfolders under the default folder for templates.

The time required to open the New dialog box depends on the size and number of subfolders within the templates folder.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, change the templates folder or reduce the number of files or subfolders within the templates folder. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. On the Save tab, under File locations, double-click User templates or Workgroup templates as appropriate.
  3. In the Folder name box, specify a new subfolder. Click OK twice.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This behavior also occurs in Microsoft Office programs in which the templates folder contains large numbers of files and subfolders.
