PRJ: Some Values Are Not Imported When You Import Project from Database (242648)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project 2000
  • Microsoft Project 98 for Windows

This article was previously published under Q242648

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, when you open a project from a Microsoft Access or Microsoft SQL Server database, and you use the Selective Data option, some values may not be imported as they appear the database.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when you open a project from a database, because some values are calculated as Microsoft Project imports the data.

Export-Only Fields and Informational-Only Fields

Some fields contain data that Microsoft Project writes when it exports to a database, but does not read when it imports the project data. Usually, this data is the result of calculations or settings in Microsoft Project.

If you edit this data directly in the database, the changes are not reflected when you import the data into Microsoft Project.

In Microsoft Project 98, these fields are indicated as Export-Only in the table descriptions of the Database.wri file.

In Microsoft Project 2000, these fields are indicated as Info. Only in the table descriptions of the Projdb.htm file.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, when you save a project to a database and use the Selective Data option, make sure that your map includes all fields that are used to calculate the field that you want to import.

For example, the database may not return the assignment Cost value. Instead, you may need to return the resource Standard Rate and assignment Work fields.

For more information about table descriptions and Export-Only or Information-Only fields, refer to the following file on your Microsoft Project CD-ROM, depending on your version of Microsoft Project.

Microsoft Project 98

Office\Database.wri

Microsoft Project 2000

Msoffice\Office\1033\Projdb.htm

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
