PRJ2000: Material Resources Not Displayed When You Apply Assignment Units Filter (242641)

SYMPTOMS

When you apply a filter that uses the Assignment Units field as a filter criteria, Microsoft Project may not display all of the tasks, resources or assignments that you expect.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when a material resource is assigned to a task and assignment units for the material resource(s) are displayed differently than assignment units for non-material resources. Filters can only filter on the values specified as filter criteria.

For example, a filter that uses the criteria "Assignment Units equals 1" does not include material resources whose Assignment Units field includes a label specified in the resource's Material Label field. If a material resource has the Material Label "Ton," the material resource's Assignment Units field would contain "1 Ton". This does not match the filter criteria and therefore is not displayed when the filter is applied.

In addition, when resource assignment units are displayed as a percentage, material resource assignment units remain decimals, because Microsoft Project 2000 always treats material resources as a quantity rather than as a percentage. In this case, a filter that uses the criteria "Assignment Units equals 1%" does not include material resources even if the material resources do not use a Material Label.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, edit your filter to filter on all of the different criteria for the tasks that you want to display.

For example, if you want to see all tasks and assignments where resource Assignment Units equals 1 and material Assignment Units equals 1 ton, you could modify your filter criteria to not only filter on the value 1, but also on the value "1 Ton."

To do this, follow these steps:
  1. On the Project menu, point to Filtered for, and then click More Filters.
  2. Select the filter that you want to edit.
  3. Click Edit.
  4. Add additional filter rows for each of the material Assignment Unit values that you want to filter on.

    For example, if you want to display material resources with Assignment Units equal to 1 ton, add the following line to your existing filter:
       And/Or       Field Name         Test           Value(s)
   -------------------------------------------------------
   Or           Assignment Units   equals         1 Ton
  5. Repeat the previous step for any additional material resource Assignment Unit values that you want to display when the filter is applied.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Click Apply.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
