PRJ2000: Error When You Enter Actual Work for Task on Project Start Date (242631)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, when you enter actual work values for a task on the same date as the project start date, you may receive the following error message:

You moved task 1 of 'Project Name to start Date. This is before the project start date (Date).

You can:

Continue. Move the task to start before the project start date.

Cancel. Do not move the task.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur when you enter actual work for a resource assignment on the same date as the project start date, and the project start date is a nonworking day.

Because the day is nonworking, Microsoft Project spreads the actual work from 12:00 A.M. to 11:59 P.M. If the task then starts before the start time of the project (8:00 A.M. by default), the message is displayed.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, you can disregard the message. Microsoft Project schedules the task correctly.

To avoid this behavior, you can make the project start date a working day for the resources that have actual work on the project start date. To do this, follow these steps before entering the actual work values:

On the Tools menu, click Change Working Time.
In the For list, select the resource whose calendar you want to modify.
Select the date that corresponds to the project start date.
Click Nondefault working time.
Click OK.
