This article was previously published under Q242626

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, when you save a project to a database on a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) server, you may receive the following message instead of a message to append your project to an existing database:
The file ftp://server/file already exists. Do you want to replace the existing file?

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when you do the following:
  • You save your project in either the Project Database (*.mpd) or Microsoft Access Database (*.mdb) format.
  • You save to an FTP server.
  • You save to an existing database.

RESOLUTION

To append your current project to an existing database, click Yes to the message listed in the "Symptoms" section. You then are prompted to click Append to append your project to the existing database, Overwrite to overwrite the existing database, or Cancel.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
