This article describes how to share the contents of your Outlook Contacts folder with Outlook Express.

To share your Outlook Contacts folder with Outlook Express you must first, in Outlook:
  • Create a Personal Address Book
  • Display the Contacts folder as an e-mail address book
  • Change the Addressing settings of your Outlook profile
  • Add your contacts to your Personal Address Book
And then, in Outlook Express:
  • Import your Personal Address Book from Outlook

In Outlook

  • Create a Personal Address Book

    1. On the Tools menu, click Services.
    2. Click Add, and then click Personal Address Book.
    3. Type a name for your address book or accept the default.
    4. Click OK, click OK, and then restart Outlook.

    Display the Contacts Folder as an E-mail Address Book

    1. In the Outlook desktop, right-click the Contacts folder, and then click Properties.
    2. Click the Outlook Address Book tab.
    3. Click to select the Show this folder as an Email Address Book check box, and then click OK.

      NOTE: If this option is not available, the Outlook Address Book has not been installed in the Services dialog box.
    4. Click OK.

    Change the Addressing Settings of Your Outlook Profile

    1. On the Tools menu, click Services, and then click the Addressing tab.
    2. In the Show This Address List First box, click Contacts.
    3. In the Keep Personal Addresses In box, click Personal Address Book.
    4. Click OK.

    Add Your Contacts to Your Personal Address Book

    1. On the Tools menu, click Address Book.
    2. In the Show Names From box, click Contacts.
    3. Click the contacts you want to add to the Personal Address Book. (You can hold down the CTRL key and click each contact, or to select all contacts, click the first name on the list, press and hold the SHIFT key, and then click the last name on the list to select the entire list.)
    4. Right-click the displayed names, and then click Add To Personal Address Book.

In Outlook Express

  • Import Your Personal Address Book from Outlook

    1. On the Tools menu, click Address Book.
    2. On the File menu, click Import, and then click Other Address Book.
    3. Click Microsoft Exchange Personal Address Book, and then click Import.
    4. When the process is finished, click OK, and then click Close.


NOTE: This procedure applies to Outlook 2000 in Corporate or Workgroup (CW) mode.
