SYMPTOMS

You may experience problems with the Microsoft Jet database engine version 3.5 on computers that have a computer name that is longer than 15 characters.

CAUSE

Microsoft Jet 3.5 was not designed to work on a computer whose computer name is longer than 15 characters.

RESOLUTION

Change the computer name so that name has 15 or fewer characters.

NOTE: This limit has been increased to 47 characters in Microsoft Jet 4.0.

MORE INFORMATION

Version 4.0 of the Jet database engine is included in Microsoft Access 2000.
