Money: Error Message: This Transaction Cannot Be Entered (240621)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to enter a "Renew CD" or "Redeem CD" transaction in Money, you may receive the following error message:
This transaction cannot be entered.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if certain investment categories are missing from your Money data file.

Earlier versions of Money did not build the investment category list when converting Quicken files.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, manually assign investment categories and subcategories. To do this:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. Click the Investments tab, and then click Investment Categories.
  3. Under Realized capital gain or loss, click Investment Income in the box on the left, and then click Capital Gains in the box on the right.
  4. Under Interest income, taxable, click Investment Income in the box on the left, and then click Interest in the box on the right.
  5. Under Interest income, tax-exempt, click Investment Income in the box on the left, and then click Tax-Exempt Interest in the box on the right.
  6. Under Dividend income, click Investment Income in the box on the left, and then click Dividends in the box on the right.
  7. Under Capital gains distribution, click Investment Income in the box on the left, and then click Capital Gains in the box on the right.
  8. Under Employee Stock Option, click Other Income in the box on the left, and then click Employee Stock Option in the box on the right.
  9. Click OK, and then click OK again.
