SYMPTOMS

The first time that you start Clip Gallery 5.0 and on every subsequent attempt to start the program, you receive the following error message when you are indexing clip catalogs from earlier versions or immediately after the indexing is completed:
Artgalry caused an Invalid Page Fault in module medcat.dll

CAUSE

This behavior sometimes occurs when Clip Gallery is trying to index a damaged catalog file from earlier versions of Clip Gallery. When Clip Gallery first starts on your computer, it searches for existing clip art files from earlier versions. If any of the catalog files that Clip Gallery tries to import are damaged, this causes Clip Gallery to fail.

WORKAROUND

Rename Clip Art Catalogs from Earlier Versions

To work around this behavior, follow these steps.

NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.
  1. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files and Folders.
  2. In the Named box, type the following: *.cag
  3. Change the Look in box to Local hard drives.
  4. Click Find now.
  5. Rename each file that is found by changing the file extension from ".cag" to ".old".
  6. In the Named box, type the following: *.idx
  7. As in step 5, rename the file extensions, but only for those files that are in a Clip Art folder or subfolder.
  8. In the Named box, type the following: *.thm
  9. As in step 5, rename the file extensions, but only for those files that are in a Clip Art folder or subfolder.
  10. In the Named box, type the following: artgalry.ini
  11. If the Artgalry.ini file exists, rename it.
  12. Run Clip Gallery 5.0 again. It should now bypass the indexing of earlier-version catalogs.
