Works Suite: Word Task Does Not Start After Entering User Information and CD Key (239410)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Works Suite 2000
- Microsoft Works Suite 2001
This article was previously published under Q239410 SYMPTOMS
When you start Microsoft Word by clicking on one of the Microsoft Works task wizard names (found on the Task Launcher), and it is the first time that you attempt to use Word after installing Microsoft Works Suite, the wizard starts. When you select a style, and then click Finish, the Microsoft Word 2000 User Information window appears. After you type the user data and CD Key number, the task wizard disappears, but Word starts, or Word and the wizard are unexpectedly minimized. When you again attempt to use a task wizard, it opens as expected.
CAUSE
This behavior is normal and occurs because you installed Works Suite using a Typical installation. When you use the Typical installation, Word does not ask for the user information or the CD Key; therefore, Word installation is not complete. After installation of Works Suite, Word asks for the user information and the CD Key number, and completes its installation the first time Word is used.
RESOLUTION
After the first time you use Word, this behavior does not recur.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
