Works: Word Art Does Not Work As Expected in Rotated Text Box (239341)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Works 2000
- Microsoft Works 6
This article was previously published under Q239341 SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to insert a WordArt object into a rotated text box in a Works Word Processor document, the WordArt object appears to remain horizontal and overlap the entire text box. When you click outside the text box, the WordArt object partially or completely disappears.
If you attempt to adjust the WordArt object so that you can see it, you are unable to place the object where you want.
If you create the text box and place the text and WordArt in the text box where you want, and you then rotate the text box, the text rotates as expected, but the WordArt object moves, changes size, or disappears.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because WordArt does not work properly in a rotated text box.
WORKAROUND
To work around this issue and approximate the WordArt character, insert a special character or symbol and then format the font of the special character or symbol.
To insert a symbol, follow these steps:
- Click inside the rotated text box, at the point you want to insert the symbol.
- On the Insert menu, click Special Character.
- In the Insert Special Character dialog box, click the Symbol tab.
- In the Font box, select the font you want.
- Click the symbol you want, and then click Insert.
To format the symbol, follow these steps:
- Select the symbol you just inserted in the text box.
- On the Format menu, click Font.
- In the Font dialog box, format the symbol with the size, color, and effect you want and then click OK.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
