The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Works 2000
  • Microsoft Works Suite 2000

This article was previously published under Q239277

SYMPTOMS

When you start Microsoft Works 2000 Database from the Start menu or from Windows Explorer, Microsoft Works 2000 Spreadsheet may unexpectedly start instead.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you change the name of the Works 2000 Database program file (Wksdb.exe).

Works 2000 Database is a specialized template of Works 2000 Spreadsheet. If you change the name of the Works 2000 Database program file, Works 2000 Spreadsheet starts, but the specialized database template does not open.

RESOLUTION

To prevent this issue from occurring, do not rename the Works 2000 Database program file.

If you renamed the Works 2000 Database program file, and then renamed the program file back to its correct name, Works 2000 Spreadsheet may continue to start when you attempt to start Works 2000 Database. In this case, you must reinstall Microsoft Works 2000.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

If you change the name of other Works 2000 program files, the programs continue to start as expected.
