  • Microsoft Works Suite 2000

This article was previously published under Q239183

SYMPTOMS

When you open a Microsoft Works 2000 Database file, you may be unable to select an object in the file.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you open the Works Database file in Form view. By default, you can only select an object in a Works Database file when the file is open in Form Design view.

The following is true of a Works database file:
  • If you save and close your database file in List view, the database file will re-open in List view.
  • If you save and close your database file in Form view, the database file will re-open in Form view.
  • If you save and close your database file in Form Design view, the database file will re-open in Form view.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, you need to click the Enable activation option. This allows you to select the object in Form view. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Open your Works 2000 Database file.
  2. On the View menu, click Form Design, and then click to select the object.
  3. On the Format menu, click Picture.
  4. In the Format Picture dialog box, click the Enable activation check box.
  5. Click OK.
  6. On the File menu, click Save.
When you re-open your database file, Works 2000 re-opens the file in Form view. However, you can now double-click on the object to select it.
