PRB: Remote Networking Faults About Carrier Detect (238908)

SYMPTOMS

When you use Remote Networking on the CE device, an error dialog box displays faulting that carrier detect is low. Also the WinDBG output will display the following error message:
Error DCD Low

CAUSE

Many serial cables that appear to work fine are actually missing the carrier detect line. This will cause the earlier problem.

RESOLUTION

There are two ways to address this problem:
  • Use a serial cable with all of the handshaking lines connected.
  • Modify the serial driver so that when the serial port status is read, the carrier detect bit is always forced to a one.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
