VIZACT: Shapes and WordArt Displayed Incorrectly in Other Browsers When You Set Transparency in Word (238684)

SYMPTOMS

When you have a Shape, an AutoShape, or a WordArt object that you have set to Semitransparent in Microsoft Word, and you then open and save the HTML file in Vizact 2000, the Shape, AutoShape, or WordArt object is not displayed correctly in browsers other than Internet Explorer 5. For example, if you view the page in Internet Explorer 4.0 or Netscape Navigator, the objects are displayed in a distorted manner.

CAUSE

Vizact 2000 does not properly support the Semitransparent feature of Microsoft Word. When Vizact saves the page, it re-creates the image that is used to display these objects in browsers other than Internet Explorer 5. When it does this, the component used to convert these objects to an image (Microsoft Vector Graphics Rendering Component, vgxedit.dll) does not save them correctly.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, you must use Microsoft Word to remove the Semitransparent setting, and then resave the page. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. Start Microsoft Word and open the HTML page.
  2. Double-click the Shape or AutoShape. Or if you are using a WordArt object, right-click the WordArt object, and then click Format WordArt.
  3. In the Format AutoShape or Format WordArt dialog box, click to clear the Semitransparent check box.
  4. Click OK and save the page.
The object will now be displayed correctly in other Web browsers.

If you want your object to be transparent or semitransparent, you can add the setting in Vizact 2000. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. Start Vizact 2000 and open the HTML page.
  2. Double-click the Shape or AutoShape. Or if you are using a WordArt object, right-click the WordArt object, and click Format WordArt.
  3. Click the AutoShape tab or the WordArt tab, and then set the transparency level under Visibility.
  4. Click OK and save your page.
The object will now be displayed correctly in other Web browsers.
