Database Error When Creating Membership Directory Using SQL Server Alias (238648)

SYMPTOMS

When you create a new Membership directory, the following error message may occur in the New Membership Server Wizard:
Verify that the information entered is correct and that the database is empty. The database specified is either empty or not valid.

CAUSE

You are attempting to connect to the SQL Server computer using a SQL Server alias name and you have Microsoft Data Access Components version 2.1 SP2 on your Site Server computer. This configuration is not supported.

RESOLUTION

You must connect to your SQL Server computer using the actual name of the SQL Server computer.
