XL97: AutoShape Lines Created in Macro Are Not Horizontal or Vertical (238564)

SYMPTOMS

When you use a Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications macro to create horizontal or vertical lines, they may appear to be broken or offset. Also, they may appear as diagonal or slanted lines when printed.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur when the following conditions are true:
  • You use a Visual Basic for Applications macro to create the line.

    -and-

  • You use the AddLine Method to draw the line.

    -and-

  • The lines are very short.

Use the AddPolyline method instead of the AddLine method to draw the line. For example, instead of using the following code 
ActiveChart.Shapes.AddLine 40, 200, 100, 400
use the following code to create the same line: 
Sub Add_Vertical_Line()
Dim myArray(1 To 2, 1 To 2) As Single

  myArray(1, 1) = 40
  myArray(1, 2) = 200
  myArray(2, 1) = 100
  myArray(2, 2) = 400

  ActiveChart.Shapes.AddPolyline (myArray)
End Sub
