Homepub: No Sound or Error Message When You Play an Animated Greeting (238459)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to play an animated greeting in Home Publishing 99 or Greetings 99, you may not hear sound or you may receive the following error message:
Mmsystem281 This file could not be played. Check the file name or install a driver that supports this type of file.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if one or more of the Media Control Interface (MCI) devices is disabled or not installed, or if the device is not configured correctly.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Multimedia.
  3. Click the Advanced tab or the Devices tab, and then double-click Media Control Devices.
  4. Click Wave Audio Device (Media Control), and then click Properties.
  5. Click Use This Media Control Device, and then click OK.
  6. Repeat steps four and five to enable the MIDI Sequencer Device (Media Control) and the Motion Video Device (Media Control).
  7. Click OK.
  8. Close Control Panel, and then restart Microsoft Windows.
