Works Error Message: A Required File Wksgen.dll Was Not Found (238448)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to start the Microsoft Works Calendar, you may receive the following error message:
A required file Wksgen.dll was not found.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the Wksgen.dll file is missing or damaged.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, copy the Wksgen.dll file from the Microsoft Works 4.5a CD-ROM to the C:\Program Files\Msworks\Calendar folder on your hard disk:
  1. Insert the Works 4.5a CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. When you insert the CD-ROM, press and hold down the SHIFT key to prevent Works from starting automatically.
  2. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Windows Explorer.
  3. In the Folders or All Folders pane of Windows Explorer, click the CD-ROM drive.
  4. In the right pane of Windows Explorer, double-click the Msworkscal folder.
  5. Double-click the System folder.
  6. Double-click the Hs folder.
  7. Click the Wksgen.dll file.
  8. On the Edit menu, click Copy.
  9. In the Folders or All Folders pane of Windows Explorer, click the C: drive.
  10. In the right pane of Windows Explorer, double-click the Program Files folder.
  11. Double-click the the Msworks folder.
  12. Double-click the Calendar folder.
  13. On the Edit menu, click Paste. If you are prompted to replace an existing file with the same name, click Yes.
  14. Quit Windows Explorer.
