Windows 2000 Setup Is Slow In Examining Hard Disks (238364)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
This article was previously published under Q238364 SYMPTOMS
If you are installing Windows 2000 on a computer that has several non-partitioned hard disks, you may have to wait a long time when the "Examining Hard Drives" message is displayed during the text-mode portion of Setup. It may seem that Setup has stopped responding.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs if the computer has multiple non-partitioned drives. During the "Examining Hard Drives" portion of Setup, a function is called to process data about each hard disk. Non-partitioned hard disks do not pass a subroutine that is called by this function multiple times. This delays the process.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
