WD98: Error Message: Word Cannot Find the Grammar File for <Language> (236993)

SYMPTOMS

When you proof documents that contain text in more than one language, you may receive the following error message:
Word cannot find the grammar file for language

CAUSE

Grammar checking in Word 98 is only available for English (US). Grammar checking for other languages is not included with the English (US) version of Word 98 Macintosh Edition. However, Word 98 allows third-party developers to release non-English grammar files.

WORKAROUND

If you click OK in the error dialog box, the spelling checker and English (US) grammar checker work normally. You can simply click OK and ignore the error, or you can use one of the following workarounds:

If a third-party grammar file for the language that you need is available, install it.

Follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Preferences.
  2. Click the Spelling & Grammar tab.
  3. Click to clear the Check grammar as you type check box.
This turns off all grammar checking functionality within Word.
