PRB: Installed CAB Doesn't Appear in Downloaded Program Files (236980)

SYMPTOMS

When trying to install a Distribution Unit Archiving Utility (Dubuild) CAB file using Internet Explorer 5.0, you will notice that the Distribution Unit (DU) does not appear in the Downloaded Program Files folder in Windows Explorer, although you will see that the classes are properly installed in the registry.

CAUSE

Packages marked as system packages will not appear in the Downloaded Program Files folder when installed through Internet Explorer 5.0, and they should not be removed. This is a new feature of Internet Explorer 5.0.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

You can mark your packages as system packages by using the /S option in Dubuild, which marks any packages listed after the /S switch as system classes in the .osd file.

If you use the CAB packaging option in Visual J++ 6.0, all the classes will by default be marked as system packages in the resulting .cab file. To turn off this feature in Visual J++ 6.0, clear the Classes in this Cabinet are globally available checkbox, which is found on the Advanced...Properties dialog box when using the CAB Archive packaging type.
