This article was previously published under Q236898 SUMMARY
When you use the Add/Remove Hardware wizard on a computer running Windows 2000, the option to add a mouse or keyboard is not available.
MORE INFORMATION
Windows 2000 detects a standard keyboard and serial or PS/2-style mouse using Ntdetect.com. Plug and Play devices such as a Universal Serial Bus (USB) keyboard or USB mouse are enumerated by the Plug and Play components in Windows 2000 and are installed automatically.
Manually adding these types of devices is not an option because these devices are installed automatically when they are working properly.
