The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q236661 SYMPTOMS
When you select an object on your HTML page, you cannot apply any effects or behaviors (such as Grow/Shrink, Motion, Color Cycle, and so on). The toolbar buttons and effect commands on the Format menu are unavailable (dimmed).
CAUSE
In Vizact 2000, you cannot apply the following effects and behaviors
- AutoEffects
- Color Cycle
- Grow/Shrink
- Spin
- Motion
- Transition
- Any Effect in the Effects view
to any of the following elements in your HTML page:
- Form fields of any kind (input boxes, buttons, and so on)
- Embedded objects in the page (such as embedded sounds or ActiveX objects)
- Horizontal lines
WORKAROUND
You can work around this limitations by moving your objects inside a text box, and then applying the effect that you want to the text box. The effects are then applied to all contents of the text box. IMPORTANT: You can use this workaround for Motion and Transition effects only.
To use this workaround, follow these steps:
- On the Insert menu, click Text Box to insert a text box into your page.
- Right-click the object to which you want to apply the effect and click Cut.
- Place the mouse pointer inside the text box.
- On the Edit menu, click Paste.
- Select the entire text box by clicking the text box border. Or, click the text box timebar on the timeline.
- Apply either a Transition or a Motion path effect.
You can also remove the text box border and fill color so that only the contents of the text box are displayed. To do so, double-click the text box and set the Line Color and Fill Color to none.
