VIZACT: Cannot Edit Object Properties Through Timeline (236655)

SYMPTOMS

When you double-click an object, a property, or an effect on the timeline, you can only edit its timing properties. When you right-click an object or an effect, you can only modify timing properties.

CAUSE

You cannot gain access to the properties for the object, property, or effect through the timeline. The timeline is for making changes to timing only. When you make changes through the timeline, or through the Format Timing dialog box when you access it through the timeline, the timing changes are for the beginning and end of the entire object, property, or effect.

WORKAROUND

To workaround this behavior, access the properties through the Format menu. Or, right-click the object or effect on the page and click Format <object or effect> where <object or effect> is the type of object or effect that you want to modify.

To modify properties for an object or effect, follow these steps:
  1. Select the object or effect in the Edit window.

    -or-

    Select the object, effect, or property on the timeline.
  2. On the Format menu, click <object>, where <object> is the type of object that you have selected. For example, if you have an AutoShape selected, click AutoShape on the Format menu. If you want to modify the properties of an effect, click <effect> on the Format menu, where <effect> is the type of effect that you want to modify. For example, to modify a Motion, click Motion on the Format menu.

    Right-click the object or effect and click Format <object or effect>, where <object or effect> is the object or effect that you want to modify. For example, if you want to modify an AutoShape, click Format AutoShape on the shortcut menu.
  3. Make the changes that you want. If you want to add timing or interactivity to the changes that you have made, click the Timing tab and specify the timing or interactivity.
  4. Click OK.
