OL2000: Invalid Page Fault in Riched20.dll When Starting Outlook (236379)

SYMPTOMS

When you start Outlook, you may receive the following error message:
Outlook caused an Invalid Page Fault in module Riched20.dll

CAUSE

The first message in your Inbox contains content that cannot be displayed in the preview pane.

RESOLUTION

Start Outlook with the preview pane turned off, and then move the message to a different location.

MORE INFORMATION

To turn off the preview pane, follow these steps:
  1. On the Start menu, click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type Outlook /nopreview.
Outlook starts with the preview pane turned off. You can now move the problem message from the Inbox to another folder.

NOTE: The problem message may be in the top or bottom position in the Inbox depending on whether the contents are sorted in Ascending or Descending order.
