PUB2000: Gradient Fill Effects Print Incorrectly (236129)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Publisher 2000

This article was previously published under Q236129

SYMPTOMS

When you print your Microsoft Publisher publication, gradient fill effects may print outside and on top of the object that contains the fill.

For example: If you print an oval with a gradient fill effect, the gradient may print in a rectangular box, and the oval may, or may not, be visible in the box. This behavior applies to Draw 98 objects, Office Art, and WordArt.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur with the following conditions:
  • Office Art, or WordArt, is created within a Draw 98 Drawing.

    -OR-

  • Office Art, or WordArt, is copied (using the copy and paste technique) from another application.

    -AND-

  • You are printing from a non-PostScript printer driver that supports both raster and vector printing modes.
If your printer driver is set to print using Vector graphics, this behavior will occur. This behavior does not occur in other applications.

RESOLUTION

Change your printer driver from Vector mode to Raster mode using the following method. NOTE: Printer drivers differ from vendor to vendor, so your printer driver options may be different from these instructions.
  1. On the File menu, click Print, and then click Properties.
  2. On the Graphics tab, click Use raster graphics.
  3. To print your publication, click OK, and then click Print .
If this behavior occurs and your printer driver does not contain options for raster or vector printing, your printer driver may print in vector mode by default. In this case, you may need to update your printer driver, or print using a different driver that is supported by your print device.

Please contact your manufacturer for more information on printer emulation.
