FIX: Upgrade Wizard GUI Allows Adding of New File Groups to Model and TempDB Databases (236045)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft SQL Server 7.0

This article was previously published under Q236045
BUG #: 51679 (SQLBUG_70)

SYMPTOMS

During a database upgrade from Microsoft SQL 6.5 to Microsoft SQL 7.0, the Microsoft SQL 7.0 Upgrade Wizard incorrectly allows the user to create new file groups for the model and TempDB databases. By design, a user is not allowed to add new file groups to the model and TempDB databases, so the Upgrade Wizard should prevent the user from specifying new file groups for these databases.

Note that the specified file groups are not scripted in the Createdb.sql file used during the upgrade process, so the file groups never actually get created.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server 7.0. This problem has been corrected in U.S. Service Pack 1 for Microsoft SQL Server 7.0. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
