PRB: Cannot Set TimeSent and TimeReceived Properties Manually (235514)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Collaboration Data Objects (CDO) 1.2
  • Collaboration Data Objects (CDO) 1.21
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5

This article was previously published under Q235514

SYMPTOMS

If you manually set the TimeSent and TimeReceived properties while sending a message or posting a message to a public folder, the properties may be overwritten with the actual time that the message was sent and received. This behavior may appear to contradict some Microsoft Developers Network (MSDN) documentation, which indicates that these properties must be set manually.

MORE INFORMATION

Previous versions of Microsoft Exchange Server do not set the TimeSent and TimeReceived properties automatically when a message is sent or posted to a public folder. With these versions of Microsoft Exchange Server, the properties must be set manually. However, Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 always sets the properties automatically. If you set the properties manually, those custom settings are overwritten when the message is sent or posted to a public folder.

Note that this does not apply to messages posted to a private mailbox.
