Microsoft Chat 2.5 Is Not Displayed on the Install/Uninstall Tab (233150)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to uninstall Microsoft Chat version 2.5 using the Add/Remove Programs tool, Microsoft Chat version 2.5 is not listed as an installed program on the Install/Uninstall tab.

CAUSE

In Windows 98 Second Edition and Windows Millennium Edition (Me), Microsoft Chat 2.5 is a component that is included with the operating system. When you attempt to uninstall Microsoft Chat version 2.5, it is not listed as an installed program on the Install/Uninstall tab.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. Click the Windows Setup tab.
  4. Click Communications, and then click Details.
  5. Click to select the Microsoft Chat 2.5 check box.
  6. Click OK, and then click Apply.
  7. After the Updating System Settings dialog box is displayed, repeat steps 4-6 and click to clear the Microsoft Chat 2.5 check box.
