This article was previously published under Q232998 SYMPTOMS
If the requested Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) options are specified under the registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\adapter name\Parms\TcpIp\DhcpOptions
the networking code fails, which causes the failure of all subsequent network operations.
CAUSE
In Microsoft Windows CE version 2.1, a mechanism exists that allows Original Equipment Manufacturer's (OEMs) to request additional data from the DHCP server. However, the software that handles the registry information incorrectly determines the length of the data, which may cause the computer to stop responding.
