After you upgrade to Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows 98 Second Edition with a Umax VistaScan scanner driver installed, or if you have Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows 98 Second Edition installed and you then install the Umax VistaScan driver, you may be unable to start Windows.
RESOLUTION

WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, disable the "path c:\ummgr" line that is created in the Autoexec.bat file by the VistaScan software. To disable the line, open the Autoexec.bat file in any text editor (such as Notepad), and then place a semicolon (;) at the beginning of the line. Save the file and then restart your computer.
MORE INFORMATION
When you install the VistaScan drivers, the default path statement in the Autoexec.bat file is overwritten with the statement "path c:\ummgr". As a result, the Win.com file may not be found and the computer may not start.
