This article was previously published under Q232942

SYMPTOMS

When you receive the error message "Your computer cannot go into standby," any of the following symptoms may occur:
  • Power management events may be disabled.
  • Power status events may not be detected.
  • Critically low power events may not be detected.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the Vpowerd.vxd file may be in use while the error message dialog box is displayed. As a result, the Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) is not polled for power-management events.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, click OK to acknowledge the error message and free the Vpowerd.vxd file.
