Registration Wizard May Not Work Over a Local Area Network (232867)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to run the Windows 98 Second Edition Registration wizard, you may be unable to successfully complete the registration process.

CAUSE

This problem can occur if you try to run the Registration wizard over a local area network (LAN), but your proxy settings in Internet properties are not correct.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Internet.
  2. Click the Connection tab, click Advanced, and then type the appropriate proxy server settings. If you do not know the correct proxy server settings, please contact your network administrator.
  3. Click OK.
