The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel 2000
  • Microsoft Office Spreadsheet Component 9.0, run time

This article was previously published under Q232854

SYMPTOMS

When you open a Web page that contains a Microsoft Office Spreadsheet Component, either of the following symptoms may occur:
  • The Number format box in the Spreadsheet Property Toolbox may be blank.

    -or-

  • When you change the number format of a cell, the previous number format that was in the cell does not appear in the Number format list.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when you format a cell to use a custom number format and then publish the worksheet from Microsoft Excel. When you publish the worksheet, the Office Spreadsheet Component uses the custom number format for the cell. However, if you change the number format, the original custom number format will not appear in the Number format list. The Office Spreadsheet Component does not allow the creation of custom number formats.
