Cannot Disable IRQ Steering on ACPI-Enabled Computer (232824)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional

This article was previously published under Q232824

SYMPTOMS

You do not have the option to disable IRQ steering in Device Manager on a computer with Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) support installed.

CAUSE

Fully compliant ACPI computers with ACPI support installed do not require this option because of the nature of the ACPI specification.

RESOLUTION

Contact your motherboard or PC manufacturer for an updated ACPI-compliant BIOS.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

In Windows 2000 on non-ACPI-compliant computers, the ability to disable IRQ steering may help resolve problems with loading devices. The majority of cases that require this option involve legacy Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 drivers installed in Windows 2000. These issues should be resolved as manufacturers release fully Windows 2000-compliant ACPI BIOSes.
