Cannot Use the Internet or Post Office Protocol After Upgrade (232759)

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade to Windows 98 Second Edition, you may not be able to use the Internet or your Post Office Protocol (POP3) mail server.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if you use the WinGate version 3.0 Proxy service. When you upgrade to Windows 98 Second Edition, the WinGate version 3.0 Proxy service loses its configuration settings to Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, reset the WinGate version 3.0 configuration:
  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to WinGate 3.0, and then click WinGate.
  2. Click Advanced, click Reset, and then click OK.
