Modem Stops Working After Upgrading to Windows 98 Second Edition (232746)

After you upgrade to Windows 98 Second Edition, your modem may no longer function correctly.
CAUSE
This issue can occur if you have a 3Com/U.S. Robotics 56K Voice Faxmodem Pro External V.90, x2(model 005605-00) installed in your computer. Some versions of the 3Com Universal Serial Bus (USB) drivers may not be totally compliant with USB standards.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, contact 3Com to inquire about the availability of a fix for this issue. For information about how to obtain and install the most current driver for this device, view the documentation included with your device, or contact your hardware manufacturer.
To work around this issue, run diagnostics on the modem before you use Dial-Up Networking.
- Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Modems.
- On the Diagnostic tab, click the 3Com modem, and then click More Information.
- After the modem responds, you can dial using Dial-Up Networking.

Install the 3Com Modem Manager program that is available from www.3com.com, or from the Software folder on your 3Com installation disk, and make sure it is running in the StartUp group.
