Prompted for Video Driver When New Hardware Profile Is Created (232724)

SYMPTOMS

When you create a new hardware profile on your laptop computer, you may be prompted for the location of your video adapter driver.

CAUSE

This problem can occur if you originally installed the third-party video adapter driver from a removable disk such as a floppy disk.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, upgrade to Windows 98 Second Edition.

To work around this problem, select the Windows\System folder when you are prompted for the location of your video adapter driver:
  1. Click to select the Specify a location check box, type windows\system in the Specify a location box, and then click Next.

    NOTE: Depending on your video adapter driver, you may be prompted for another location. If this happens, type windows in the Specify a location box, and then click Next.
  2. Click Next, click Next, and then click Finish.
