Err Msg: Add/Remove Programs Another Installation Is Already in Progress (232571)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to use the Add/Remove Programs tool for Office 2000 on a computer running Windows 2000, you may receive the following error message:

Add/Remove Programs

Another Installation is already in progress. Complete that installation before proceeding with this install.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if you install Office 2000 on a computer running Windows 95/98, and then upgrade to use Windows 2000.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Close Add/Remove Programs and Control Panel.
  2. Restart Windows 2000.
  3. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  4. Click Microsoft Office 2000, and then click Change or Remove.
NOTE: You may need to manually delete the Office 2000 icons from the Startup group and the Programs menu.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Windows 2000.
