Encarta Virtual Globe 99 Setup Checks for NT SUR 4.0 Gold (232260)

SYMPTOMS

When you are installing Microsoft Encarta Virtual Globe 99 in Windows 2000, you may receive the following message:
Internet Explorer 4.0 Setup:

You must have NT SUR 4.0 Gold (version 1381) to install.
Please click OK to cancel installation.

CAUSE

This message appears because Encarta Virtual Globe 99 is attempting to install Internet Explorer 4.01 SP1, and Internet Explorer 4.01 SP1 Setup is incorrectly detecting your Microsoft Windows NT version.

RESOLUTION

If you click OK, Setup is canceled. To continue installing Encarta Virtual Globe 99, close the error message dialog box by clicking the Close button (the "X" button) in the upper-left corner of the Internet Explorer 4.0 Setup dialog box.

The browser included with Windows 2000 does not need to be updated for Encarta Virtual Globe 99 to work correctly.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Internet Explorer 4.01 Service Pack 1.
