SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft FrontPage, when you apply Shared Borders to an HTML page created in and saved from Microsoft Word as a Web page, the shared borders do not appear when you view the page in a Web browser.

CAUSE

In Microsoft Word, when you save the file, a meta tag that identifies Word as the originator of the file is stored in the HTML source. FrontPage does not remove this meta information when you save the file in FrontPage because it is used by FrontPage to prevent you from adding a theme to the document.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem and have the shared borders appear when you view the page in a Web browser, remove the meta information that identifies the file as originating in Word. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. In FrontPage, open the file created in Word and switch to Page view.
  2. Click the HTML tab at the bottom of the window.
  3. Locate the following tag and delete it:

    <meta name=Originator content ="Microsoft Word n">

    where n is a number identifying the version of Word.
  4. On the File menu, click Save.
NOTE: If you edit the file in Word after you perform this procedure, you will need to repeat this procedure.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
