PRJ98: Actual Work Lost When Opening 4.x Project (231873)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Project 98 for Windows
This article was previously published under Q231873 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Project 98, when you open a project that was last saved in Microsoft Project 4.0 or 4.1, values of Actual Work may be lost for some tasks.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs when you open a project that was saved in Microsoft Project 4.0 or 4.1, in which actual work was assigned to one or more tasks that have no resource assigned and are less than 100 percent complete.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, reenter the Actual Work values to the appropriate tasks in Microsoft Project 98. NOTE: To aid in this process, you can do the following in Microsoft Project 4.x, in the project you want to open:
- On the Insert menu, click Insert Column.
- In the Field Name box, click Actual Work. Click OK.
- Repeat steps 1 and 2 for the Text1 field.
NOTE: You can use any Text field, Text1 through Text10. - Select the Actual Work column.
- On the Edit menu, click Copy (Cell).
- Select the Text1 column.
- On the Edit menu, click Paste.
- Save and close the project.
- Open the project in Microsoft Project 98.
Microsoft Project 98 will import the values to aid in updating the actual work values for tasks. NOTE: In Microsoft Project 98, do not copy the values in Text1 and paste them in the Actual Work field, because then Microsoft Project will set the tasks as 100 percent complete.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
