- Microsoft Outlook 2000
- Microsoft PowerPoint 2000
- Microsoft Word 2000
- the operating system: Microsoft Windows NT 4.0
This article was previously published under Q230899 SYMPTOMS
When you start one of the Office programs, you may experience one of the following problems:
- The program interface (toolbars, menus, or document) may be dimmed or unavailable.
-or-
- Some of the fonts listed in the Font list (on the Formatting toolbar) may be unavailable.
-or-
- The height of the insertion pointer becomes very large.
CAUSE
You may experience the above problems if all of the following are true:
- You are using Windows NT 4.0.
-and-
- You have either Service Pack 3 or Service Pack 4 (for Windows NT 4.0) installed.
-and-
- You installed a large number of Far East fonts.
This problem has occurred on some computers that installed the five Far East fonts with Office 2000. However, you dramatically increase the likelihood of seeing this problem if you install all of the fonts on CD2 of the Microsoft Office 2000 MultiLanguage Pack. NOTE: This error also occurs when you attempt to use the Spreadsheet Solution templates.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, install Service Pack 5 for Windows NT 4.0.
To download this service pack, go to the following site in your browser:
and click the Product Updates link.
MORE INFORMATION
The Far East fonts installed by Office are relatively large, in terms of file size. For example, the Universal Font is approximately 24 MB in size. For this reason, it is recommended you install just the minimum number of Far East fonts during the installation of either Office or the MultiLanguage Pack.
