The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word 2000

This article was previously published under Q229486

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to paste an inline picture in a text box in PowerPoint, the picture is not pasted. This problem occurs in the following cases:

Case 1

After you insert a picture as an inline object in Word, if you copy and then paste the picture into a text box that is contained in a PowerPoint slide, nothing happens.

Case 2

After you insert a picture as an inline object in a text box in Word, if you copy and then paste the text box into a PowerPoint slide, the text box is pasted, but the inline picture is missing.

WORKAROUND

NOTE: All pictures in PowerPoint are inserted as "floating", so that you can easily place a picture exactly where you want it to appear. This occurs regardless of the method that you use to insert the picture (copy and paste, or insert the picture from file). There is no method available to insert a picture as inline in PowerPoint.

To work around the problems as described in the "Symptoms" section of this article, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Paste the Inline Picture on the PowerPoint Slide

Do not copy and paste your inline picture from Word into a text box on your PowerPoint slide. Instead, paste the inline picture directly onto your PowerPoint slide. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. In Word, point to Picture on the Insert menu, and then click From File.
  2. In the Insert Picture dialog box, click to select the picture you want, and then click Insert.
  3. With the inline picture selected, click Copy on the Edit menu.
  4. In PowerPoint, do not insert a text box. Instead, click Paste on the Edit menu.
The "inline" picture is pasted as a "floating" picture in PowerPoint.

Method 2: Insert the Picture in PowerPoint

Do not copy and paste your inline picture from Word. Instead, insert the picture directly in PowerPoint. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. In your PowerPoint slide, point to Picture on the Insert menu, and then click From File.
  2. In the Insert Picture dialog box, click to select the picture you want, and then click Insert.
Your picture is pasted as a "floating" picture in PowerPoint.
